Featuring three stages of performances from some of the hottest bands impacting the music scene today, as well as an art gallery, skate park, paint ball and top speakers from across the country, Purple Door Festival announces the official line-up for its 2007 event, to be held at Ski Roundtop in Lewisberry, PA August 17-18.
Hosting a healthy diet of favorites and a diverse array of critically acclaimed newcomers, the 12th annual edition of the Festival boasts nationally known artists such as Relient K, Anberlin, mewithoutYou, Haste the Day, Norma Jean, As Cities Burn, Colour Revolt, Sherwood, Denison Witmer, Red, The Devil Wears Prada, Derek Webb, Family Force 5, Leeland, and Cool Hand Luke as well as local favorites August Burns Red, Kheris and Farewell Flight.
"We are very pleased to have such a varied group of heavy-hitters on our schedule this year," explains Chris Strayer, festival director. "Many of these bands are leaving a significant mark on today's music scene and will bring out a new audience to the event. This, of course, is in addition to our thousands of loyal supporters who have been attending over the past 12 years. Over a dozen of the bands performing have had albums hit Billboard's "Top 50" or "Heatseekers" sales charts this year, plus many bands on our bill are slated to perform on this summer's premier national stages including Vans Warped Tour, Lollapalooza and Ozzfest. We're very excited about the quality of this year's lineup."
Timothy Eddings, program director, adds, "Our goal is to not only provide quality entertainment for those attending, but to showcase what Christians are doing in today's music and art world. We hope to let today's youth culture know that creativity has a place in the context of the church."
Purple Door also presents top speakers from across the country, including Eric Simmons who will present a gospel message and Rev. Eric Timm who will talk about meeting the needs of the world's hungry.
In addition to being one of the Northeast's larger new music festivals, a continuing tradition of the event is the Purple Door Art Gallery. The Gallery serves to encourage both young and emerging artists to use their talents as a careful, well-considered expression through various visual media, as the artist relates to the surrounding world at large. This year's plans also include a collaborative installation featuring work from professional artists from Lancaster, Philadelphia, Ohio and Tennessee.
In the vein of cultivating talent, Purple Door also gives artists the opportunity to showcase their musical ability through the New Band Showcase stage, sponsored by Mono Vs Stereo. Interested bands can submit a three song demo cd, along with a band bio for consideration and a panel of judges will choose the three of the most promising acts to perform on the Gallery stage on the Friday night of the Festival.
