New Inpop Act Go Fish Discusses the Music Biz

"You’re doing what!! Why would you sign with a label, you’re doing so well on your own?!" We’ve been hearing that a lot lately. So, this is our story.

We started this band for two reasons, to have fun and to tell people about Christ. From day one, that’s what Go Fish has been about. When we first started performing in 1995, the response was immediate and we knew that we had something special. So, in 1996 we recorded our first independent album and started performing wherever we could. Pursuing a record deal was never a huge priority. We just wanted to do what God wanted us to do. It wasn’t always easy, but we kept at it. It says in Proverbs that if you commit your plans to the Lord, they will succeed. As a group, we hold on to that promise daily.

While the Christian record labels never seemed too interested in what we were doing, our audience was. In six years we recorded three independent projects that sold over 100,000 units. We were doing sales, shipping, and invoices with over 400 bookstores and were touring full-time. While all of that was exciting, it was also overwhelming at times. It got to a point where the music was starting to suffer because 80% of our time was spent dealing with the business side of Go Fish. We realized that it was time to get some outside help.
