Some of gospel's most powerful and popular music artists will come together for the 2002 Super Bowl Gospel Celebration before the Super Bowl in New Orleans on Sunday, February 3rd. The Celebration will be held at the Saenger Theater, 143 N. Rampart Street at 1:30 p.m.

An inspirational, family-oriented event, the gospel extravaganza will feature the award-winning talents of Kirk Franklin, Mary Mary and Kurt Carr and The Kurt Carr Singers along with Woody Rock of R&B sensation Dru Hill and duos Ted and Sheri, and Pam and Dodi. Bishop Paul S. Morton of Greater St. Stephens Cathedral in New Orleans will share inspirational words and Dr. Bobby Jones, host of the famed Bobby Jones Gospel Show, will make a special appearance. Also, some of the top players in the National Football League (NFL) will be an integral part of the Celebration. Players who participated in the past include Reggie White, Cris Carter, Deion Sanders, OJ Brigance, Curtis Martin, Merton Hanks, Quadry Ismail and Michael Barrow.

In its third year, the Super Bowl Gospel Celebration is the first and only gospel event sanctioned by the NFL. Past performers include Fred Hammond and RFC, Kirk Franklin and 1NC, Gladys Knight, Yolanda Adams and Jackie Velasquez. The event draws a diverse crowd and is quickly becoming one of the Super Bowl's signature events.

Tickets for the concert are $31, $21 and $16, and can be purchased at the Saenger Theater or Ticket Master locations. Proceeds from this year’s event will benefit the Special Olympics of New Orleans and Christian Athletes United for Spiritual Empowerment (CAUSE).
