St. Louis Rams Quarterback and NFL MVP Kurt Warner and Dove, Grammy and AMA-award-winning artist Yolanda Adams will host the 33rd Annual Dove Awards telecast in April, Frank Breeden, president of the Gospel Music Association (GMA) and executive producer of the awards show, announced today. The Dove Awards will air live, April 25, on PAX TV, the nation's family friendly network, at 9:00 p.m. ET/8:00 p.m. CT. The program will air tape-delayed at 9:00 p.m., PT/8:00 p.m., MT.
"I'm thrilled to have Kurt and Yolanda as our hosts for this year's Dove Awards. Both have achieved the highest honors in their fields and are respected for their professional accomplishments and personal integrity. I can think of no better hosts to showcase the Dove Awards at a time when we are experiencing record-breaking sales of Christian and gospel music," said Breeden. "I look forward to working with Kurt and Yolanda to put on an inspiring and entertaining evening for the PAX TV television audience."
"Following the success of our broadcast of the ‘White House Salute to Gospel Music,’ we are pleased to be able to present this significant award program, recognizing artists and performances in this important and popular segment of American music," commented Bill Scott, President of Programming, PAX TV.
PAX TV's broadcast will mark the first time the Dove Awards will be live on a national network. Another first, FamilyNet will televise live the two-hour pre-show where more than 25 Dove Awards will be handed out. The live pre-show telecast, sponsored by Sparrow Records' Dove Hits 2002, will also feature backstage interviews and will direct viewers to PAX TV at the conclusion of its live broadcast. FamilyNet is a 24-hour television network airing more than 50 hours of original, values-based programs weekly. FamilyNet broadcasts to a potential 40 million TV households and is available on cable systems and broadcast stations nationwide.
Warner’s rise from obscurity in the Arena Football League to NFL Super Bowl Champion is one of the most publicized stories in NFL history. ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, ESPN, TNT, and CNN have all featured Warner in numerous highlight shows and specials. The former grocery-store stock clerk rose to sports stardom in 1999 when he took over the quarterback position at the St. Louis Rams and led the team to win Super Bowl XXXIV. He is now ranked as one of the greatest quarterbacks in NFL history. The NFL MVP brought the Rams back to the Super Bowl this year after leading the team to an NFL best 14-2 record. Warner's professional success has enabled him to assist causes close to the heart of his family, such as the Kurt Warner First Things First Foundation (www.firstthingsfirstfoundation.com), a charity aimed at sharing time and financial resources with people in need and promoting Christian values.
"I am honored to have been asked to host the 33rd Annual Dove Awards," said Warner. "I have been a fan of Christian music for many years and have gone to the Dove Awards several times. I love Christian music because it reflects my faith, and because it has the ability to bring such encouragement and inspiration to others. I look forward to sharing the Dove Awards on the national television broadcast."
Adams has been a pioneer of Gospel music since her 1987 debut, Just as I Am. The cornerstone of her amazing career thus far has been the 1999 platinum-plus, award winning Elektra album, Mountain High…Valley Low, which established her one of Gospel music's favorite artists. She has garnered numerous nominations and awards including three 2002 Dove Award nominations, one Dove Award, three Grammy awards, three Soul Train "Lady of Soul" Awards, five NAACP Image Awards and 11 Stellar Awards. In 2002, Adams was the first ever to win an American Music Award in the category of "Favorite Contemporary Inspirational Artist." She was recently featured on PAX TV performing in the GMA-produced White House special, "Celebrating America's Musical Heritage - A Salute To Gospel Music," and is one of the co-hosts for this year's Soul Train Awards.
"The Dove Awards celebrate the many styles of gospel music. I look forward to hosting this celebration which pays tribute to some of our industry's most anointed messengers of music," said Adams.
In addition to the television agreements, Breeden also announced that Feed the Children (www.feedthechildren.org), the third largest U.S. charity involved in global aid, would be the official charity for the awards show for the second straight year. Current plans call for Feed The Children's work with the children of Afghanistan to be highlighted during the telecast.
American Airlines (www.aa.com) is the official airline sponsor for the 33rd Annual Dove Awards.
