Mark Harris, one-fourth of the renowned group 4Him, will be releasing his debut solo project with INO Records on June 7, 2005. Aptly titled, The Line Between The Two, took Harris out of his comfort zone with 4Him and gave him the opportunity to reflect his life journey discovering the mere trace of a line between birth and death.
“You look at a tombstone and there are dates, but the line between the two is the life lived,” explains Harris. “And that’s really the story, the story isn’t the beginning and the end of your life but the story is what you did on that line, living in that line. Not one of us can define the moment that we’re born or die, but we can choose how we live the time that we’re here.”
After more than 15 years with 4Him, Harris follows his heart and creates a project that reveals his personal journey to self-discovery, as well as invites complacent or hesitant Christians to explore uncharted territory to follow God. On this journey, Harris also learned that making a solo project involves many facets that are not involved with a group project.
“This has been different because the process is just more personal, and the process of writing has pushed me because it’s a different thing,” Harris states.
As an anthem to his self-reflection, Mark’s first radio single “For the First Time” encourages individuals to be open to new opportunities, to live and make the most of every moment: “I’m ready to live/ ready to breathe/ ready to take in everything/ ready to love/ ready to shine/ ready to live this life of mine/ ready to jump/ ready to fly/ for the first time.”
“The whole thought of this song is describing how I was waiting for a push, waiting for a sign, but all I needed to do was to live my life and make it count,” Harris says. “I find the theme of life so important to make it matter, and also walking away from the things that don’t need to be a part of our life and just enjoy all the things God has for us.”
The Line Between The Two features the production skills of Pete Kipley (MercyMe, Rebecca St. James) along with many of the songs written or co-written by Harris himself. In addition to Harris, this project also displays acclaimed songwriters Dan Muckala, Tony Wood, Dave Clark, Chris Eaton, Gary Sadler, and John Hartley.
Mark Harris has been the primary songwriter for 4Him writing 22 no.1 hits (“Can’t Get Past the Evidence,” “The Basics of Life”), in addition to 8 Dove Awards and performances with the Billy Graham and Louis Palau crusades. Harris continues to tour with 4Him across the country, and resides in Mobile, Alabama with his wife of 15 years and two children (Matthew, 11, Maddison, 9).
